Smooth, responsive, well built - comfortable and clean looking. Lightweight and attractive. It doesn't get any better than this for the price. Pros: Inexpensive, good action, easily adjustable, attractive looking. Super handy It's really great that you can buy a single lever to replace the one that got bent! Sure, in theory you can replace the blades on Avid levers, but try finding a replacement blade for cheaper than this lever -- in fact, try finding one at all! Looks and works just the same as the one it replaced (FR-5). Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: February 21, 2012 Reviewed by: Jeff O., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Nice to be able to buy only one lever Avid's have a nice reach and feel.
I run these on a flat bar road bike and find them more powerful then road levers.
Pros: Good reach, nice to buy only one if you break one. Cons: Only fit on standard bars 22.2. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: November 07, 2011 Reviewed by: Jonathon M., Vancouver, BC Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Decent lever It was easy to install. I used it on a bike with a coaster break in the rear, and a V-Brake in front. So it's used more as an auxiliary brake. Pros: Seems solid enough for the price range. Cons: My wife hasn't noted any problems. FR-5 works great with my single digit 5 v brakes. Looks good and is light enough for non-weight wennies. How can you complain for 10 bucks! Very nice action! Cool that it's ambidextrous. No trouble with installation, and the narrow profile is just what I wanted for this project. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: April 09, 2011 Reviewed by: Peter , Illinois Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Great cable brake lever for the price. Light and durable. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: March 05, 2011 Reviewed by: Sam, Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Great option Its great that these levers come as individuals, since i damaged one of my pair in a crash, so i just bought one replacement. I wish all levers had the option to be purchased individually. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: March 03, 2011 Reviewed by: Ryan O., California Was this review Helpful? Good product! If you want to have a little modulation in your brakes or if you want to make sure you don't go over the handlebars one second but want to tighten them within seconds these Avid Single Levers will work for you! If you are like me and worried about getting hydraulics then stick with cables and get a pair of these levers to help you out. If you crash and the lever gets bent they are pretty easy to bend back (personal experience). The bend point is at the flat section on the lever (the skinny part). I believe it is made this way so as to not break the entire piece. WELL DONE AVID! I believe they have lever adjust too (see picture of set screw on right side). Pros: Simple easy product with good price. I bought two pairs just in case one broke. Cons: Avid what did you do?! Why they didn't make these work with the Avid matchmaker I don't know but I wish they would have. And be aware when installing not to overtighten on the bars or you will strip it out. In the case that you do, just flip the screw through the bottom hole and screw it into the top. Works fine.
