Shimano Disc Brake Adapters

Got these for my xt 785's. choosing the correcting one(s) was a little confusing. A quick email to UC and they helped identify the correct adapter to go with my setup. Everything worked as it should on the first go around.

Not much can be said about an adapter, though I must say that these are noticeably higher quality than the forged Avid adapters. The adapter I used was an IS to Post, and all four threaded holes were clean and free of burrs. A minimal amount of material meant no interference issues with the frame, even on my slotted horizontal dropouts. I can definitely recommend these over any forged adapter.

Rather than putting some no-name adapters I had to the new bike, I got this instead.

Not surprisingly, it's lighter and seems like a quality piece.

Has directions printed on the side so you have no chance of messing up the install.

Got Shimano brakes? Get Shimano adapters.

Getting the right post mount

There's not a lot to say about a brake post adaptor except some advice on how to pick the right one.

Post mount adapters are the same front or back. Universal labels them all as front but they fit front and back. The "up" arrow should point in the direction of travel of the disk.

Some frames with post is mounts have recessed bolt fittings, e.g. Santa Cruz TB Al. The bolts provided with the mounts may have heads that are too large to fit in the recessed slots.

The nice people at Universal were really helpful when I asked them to explain all this. MTBR is also a good resource.

Pros: Shimano have adapters for pretty much any combination of post and IS and disk sizes.

Cons: Make sure you get the right one. Choosing can be a pain.

shimano adapter

shimano for correct fit. use when changing rotor size.

Pros: note bigger better brakes = safety on multi use trails. and they're more fun.

With such variety in sizing options, up sizing to a larger brake rotor is easy. This adapter is light weight, simple and good looking leaving enough room to adjust your caliper. Locks the caliper in place and doesn't move.

Why not included with the brakes?

I suppose there are many different styles, but does getting set up with Shimano hydros seem like such a nickel & dime experience? Anyway, I got the right equipment for my bike and they work fine.

Pros: Easy set-up.

Cons: Too many bits to purchase to get rolling w/ Shimano hydros.

With all the different bake caliper shapes these day make sure you get the right brand adapter to match your caliper

Like that Shimano's adapters are slim and just blend right into the brake and frame. Just needed one for the back to get my XT up to 180mm. Also had one for a 180mm post mount as well. Works just like it should.

the shimano adapters have a nice finish and are lightweight. you could go cheaper and they'll work, but they don't look for good on your sweet high end bike

Does exactly what you need

This is a simple and basic part that is necessary if you want to use disc brakes. What more can really be said? Cheap, strong, worthwhile.

Got these for the New XT brakes

I got to admit. Shimano pieces always look so well machined. I think these work just as bit as any other brand, but hey the brakes are Shimano, so should not the rest be?

It is an adapter

I am not entirely sure what people might expect from an adapter when they buy one. This is an adapter- it looks better than my avid adapters and came with the hardware to mount onto the disc brake tab. It met expectations and now I've forgotten about it.

Pros: It functions they way you would expect.

Cons: None.
