KMC Chain

I bought this for my first SS and it is a good heavy duty chain. With the heavy duty comes a lot of weight. Color does not last. Would be a good BMX chain.

Pros: Heavy duty build.

Cons: Color does not last.

Great chain for the money!

I've used this chain for a while now in training and racing on the velodrome. The drilled out plates had me thinking the chain would stretch out quickly, but this has not been the case. It runs well and I can afford to keep a spare in my bag. I've used other chains but this one seems to be the best chain for the money. I weight 200lbs and do a lot of hard sprints and standing starts and this chain has managed to do fine. Like any other chain, keep it clean and lubed correctly and it should last a long time.

Pros: smooth, quite and price

Cons: My shop down the road doesn't carry them

One of the lighter chains around and is all the rage with the Dirt Jump crowd.

The KMC K710SL is beefy but light enough for the weight conscious.

Mine hasn't snapped yet after a year so I'm recommending it.

tough as nails. not the prettiest chain in the world, but looks tough and is tough. it's also pretty heavy

Best SS chain!

I been rinding this chain for a year and is still in good condition. Easy to install or remove with the quick link. It is light, cheap than others chains and paint finish is great after a long year. If you ride street/dj it will fit pretty good, you could keep 4-5 links for replecement.



Pros: Light, Strong, Paint Finish Durability, many colors avaible.

Cons: A bit short

I use the black version on my fixie and had to remove one link to get the proper length. Some have complained this chain isn't long enough, but it even states that it only comes with 100 links. Derailleur chains I've had come with 112, while this chain is intended for bmx bikes. For fixies and heavy-duty singlespeed setups, I reckon this chain will only work for setups 64 gear-inches and below, so be forewarned. Also, by extra-thick plates, they mean this chain won't fit in traditional multispeed chain tools. Other 1/8" chains fit in a my compact Park Tool chain breaker, but this chain needs an oversized tool or a shop tool with an adjustable backplate. Despite all this, I still love this chain because it hasn't "stretched" after a couple thousand miles and it still hasn't broken through all my fixed-gear antics. One last thing: taking a chain tool to this chain will likely scrape off some of the paint from the plates, no matter what color you get.

Pros: Price, durability, style.

Cons: Small number of links compared to other chains, chain tool compatibility, paint finish durability.

Eighth inch!

This chain is great for running a eighth inch single speed set-up. Reasonably light and comes in blingy colors for your SS or fixie.

The chain was too short!!!

I bought this chain (in white) for a single speed build, and it couldn't even encircle an 18/48 ratio. I ended up having to splice in 4 extra links, which made my white chain look stupid because 4 of them were gray. Ridiculous at 22 dollars!

Pros: looks good, performs fine

Cons: too short. They should give a little too much chain, not too little!

Best single speed DJ/Street/Urban chain

Great great chain, and super-cheap! Make sure to pick up a KMC half-link also if you want to slam the axle in the drop-outs. Note that you will need a serious chain tool to be able to break & install pins in this sucker. The Park CT-7 chain tool is recommended!

Hight Tech Single Speed

This chain stays on the rings, just like the rest of their freestyle chains, but does it with Dura-Ace style. The paint chips off a little on the contact areas, but that is to be expected and is for the most part invisible. It would be nice if KMC included a painted quick release link, but the silver one works. I use it on my single speed road bike and runs quite and light.

Cons: Paint chips a little, but only on contact areas
Connector link's color doesn't match the chain (unpainted)

I have two of these in service now. I like them. They have a unique look. I haven't had any issue with reliability or excessive wear. No stiff links, has master. decent price.

Strong and smooth chain.
The chain connector is superb, much better and comfier then SRAM for no chain-tensioner (or derailure) applications.
Just don't use it on 3/32 rings, it moves (not Kmc's fault).

Fantastic Chain

I don't need to run any other chain after this one. Smooth, light, durable, consistent, and long-wearing. You really don't need to buy any other more expensive chain. When people talk badly about KMC chains, they are not talking about this one.

Cons: Not always stocked at the LBS.

I've been using this on a 29er singlespeed for over a year. I have no bashguard so I went with the BMX chain. I've hit it on rocks numerous times and hundreds of logs. Its still going strong.

Pros: Strong, interesting looks, my buddy said "whoa you got a moped chain on there?!"

Cons: Heavy, even though its lighter than the regular Kool chain.
