You need this for a 160mm rear rotor I know there are a lot of disc configurations but I was annoyed to find that the "160mm f/r" disc brake set I bought included an adapter that worked for 160mm front rotors but 140mm rotors in the rear. Includes Mounting Bolts! I ordered the 74mm post mount to 185mm rotor mounting bracket and, unlike the description, it comes with the longer bolts. A nice surprise! The adaptor installed without issues and works fine. I was using one of the cheaper adaptors that just had two longer spacers to get the caliper out to clear the rotor and was getting a lot of brake chatter. This proper bracket eliminated the chatter, by providing a stiffer mount. Problem solved! The adapter does exactly what you'd want it to do. Matches up well to the avid brakes (almost like they're designed together... ;-) Pros: like that I can pick up just the adapter-- got enough bolts in the parts bin to put everything together.

When used with a Tektro caliper, the pads were not aligned with the disc exactly right. I can't speak to an Avid caliper. The screw holes did not quite match up to my caliper either and the calipers were hard to adjust. It comes with longer screws!!!!! I needed an adapter to put a 185mm rotor on the front fork.
I thought I was going to be on the hook for longer screws too.
Fortunately, the adapter came with longer screws with threadlocker. Pros: Puts the brake in the right place for a larger rotor

Really bolts onto tabs Reviewing an adapter is a difficult endeavor to manage well, as most of the time the consumer puts them on the bike and then forgets about them.
This is what I did, so I'd say they work just like you would think they would. Pros: Didn't strip, didn't break. And I have lots of them on several bikes. Cons: none.
