WOW! yes you can knock your knuckles on it and it makes a sound. but when you sit on it that's a whole other story. after initial prep of creme overnight, it softened up right away...as in out of the box. the brooks people said no creme for six months, and it's perfect. have not had to adjust tension screw yet. i'm 140 lbs, 5'8".
i ride no pads mostly, street clothes...and it's easy to understand why this is the official naked ride saddle, at least in england i think.
the honey darkens very gradually. very luxurious for their standard model. Pros: love, won't use anything else, ever. i have 2 fizik arione saddles for sale Cons: to beautiful to have cons Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: August 25, 2012 Reviewed by: Jeff P., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Simply Gorgeous The Brooks Honey B-17 has to be hands down one of the most gorgeous looking saddles you could put on your classic bike or touring machine. Yeah, they're a bit heavy (compared to a racing saddle) but the style and comfort are hard to beat. After the initial break in period, what you are left with is one of the most comfortable saddles you will every ride. Seeing pictures of the saddle online doesn't do it any justice. They look way better in person.
I was initially put off by the fact that the leather would need to be treated once in a while, but it's and easy process and takes only a few minutes.
I'm looking forward to many years on my Brooks! Pros: One of the best looking saddles out there. Classic looks and comfort to boot! Cons: A bit heavy, but then again it's on a touring bike so weight is not that big of an issue. Simply the best! My favorite saddle for commuting, touring, and just riding around town. Pros: Most comfortable saddle I've owned Cons: Heavy and using in adverse weather can be an issue. Be sure to use the cover if riding in the rain for extended periods. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: February 16, 2011 Reviewed by: Ryan W., Minnesota Was this review Helpful? Great saddle. Be careful in the rain though. Had to tension it a decent amount after getting caught in a downpour. Great customer service from Brooks!!!!! Even better than they used to be! My first experience with a Brooks saddle was almost 20 years ago - it was a friend's saddle, and not yet broken in. I was horrified. He convinced me to try it again a few months later, and it was a totally different experience. I finally understood the hype.
This time it was easier. The saddle was comfortable on the first ride. I could feel the leather flex underneath me. 4 months later, it has only gotten better. It seems there is still a slight break-in period, it's just that the newer saddles start at a much softer point than they used to. Pros: It's comfy, it looks great, and it will last a really really long time. Cons: Natural leather needs treating if you want it to last. It doesn't like rain. It's not light, but if you are looking at this saddle, you probably don't care. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: January 21, 2011 Reviewed by: Tristan H. Works as good as I've heard! It really is as comfortable as I've heard. I'm still dialing in the position as I slip around as bit but It's infinitely more comfortable than my last saddle, which had a split seat. My first ride with it was about 30 miles, and while I had a little moderate soreness over the sit bones, there was no piercing soreness with my last, or numbness. I've even ridden 20 miles without any bike shorts, and it felt just as good.
It does looks so nice I get a little worried about leaving my bike around with it. Weather. I've had no issues yet, but I'm gonna pick up some sort of cover at some point. Pros: Comfort
Style Cons: Looks
Weather issues Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 05, 2010 Reviewed by: Yousif M., New Hampshire Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
I think after the purchase of a rain jacket, purchasing the Brooks saddle was the best money I've spent on my bike.
I love my Brooks. True, it took a few rides to go from comfortable to super-comfortable. I commute, tour, and go on club rides on my Brooks: it is wonderful in all of these applications. No more sore butt! Going back to a non-Brooks saddle on my racing bike is always painful.
To protect my saddle from the Oregon drizzle, I use a plastic shower cap; not as classy as the Brooks cover, but a step up from a plastic sack. Pros: comfortable, well made, good looking Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 01, 2010 Reviewed by: Vanessa H., Oregon Was this review Helpful?
