KMC Z410 1spd Chain

Good fixed gear chain!

I bought this for my fixed gear road bike and it performed well, rode it a long time and no chain stretch.

Pros: Good cheap, functional 1/8 chain

Cons: none to date.

Since I changed the cog on my IGH I needed a longer chain. I chose the rust buster version because this will be my winter commuter. I'll see how it holds up. It is certainly heavy enough. Also a funky gray color. I was pleasantly surprised to find out it came with a quick link.

for being exposed to constant rain and frost. this chain still looks good. only a few rust spots from the cog. thats all.

chains

This is the only chain that I would run on my single speed. Very sturdy and long lasting.

Pros: strong. long lasting. inexpensive.

Cons: a little heavy but i'm not a weight weenie

Excellent for commuter or town bike

I've been using this chain for a year on my single speed commuter in every kind of weather. It's durable and rarely needs lube. It's not the most silent chain but I think it makes a pleasant hum.

rode this once and then put the old chain back on. yuck.

i should say i have had better experiences with kmc chains before. perhaps i got a lemon.

Gets the job done.

Very basic, no frills chain. It'll definitely get the job done, but there are much better options out there. I no longer buy cheap chains after I had this one derail and break on me.

Spend the extra $10-15 for a decent quality single-speed chain.

Pros: Works, cheap.

Cons: Oxidizes quickly. Too much lateral flexibility for serious single-speed use.

Rustbuster!

I bought the "rustbuster" version to use on my commuter bike. It truly is rustproof! In fact, it runs so clean, I often forgot to lube it.

Pros: Rustproof, easy to install

kmc 1 spd chain

Awesome strong chain. Get it set and forget it, Have been mashing 32t x 18t ss since 2007. still gowing strong with minimal stretch and I stand alot!

Greasy

Came with a sticky, greasy coating that I can't get off very easily. It's either going to take a lot of riding or some degreaser. Not too bad now that I don't have to touch it but the chain is picking up a lot of dirt. Otherwise, a great chain. I appreciate the quick link.

These chains are super inexpensive, and decently reliable. You should definitely degrease these and then throw some chain lube on though because the factory grease isn't the greatest.

Cons: Tend to wear out faster than other chains I've used, factory grease is crap

Great Commuter chain

I do not know how you could go wrong with this chain on a commuter or townie. This is my third KMC Z410 chain and I even use one for track racing. The thing is simple and works. It is strong and each chain has withstood many grueling miles of commuting in ice, rain, fog, gravel, dirt, wind... My daily commute is 30 miles, 4-5 days a week for 52 weeks... The thing just kept going.

If the chain rolls and stays on the bike it is all systems go, I say.

Pros: Simple. It is Purple. Strong. Effective. Inexpensive. Mindless, really.

Cons: I have not found any. I used to rag to clean off the sticky packaging grease. I could complain about weight but if it is light it will not last long so...

This is not the greatest chain ever, and at 10 bucks, I guess I couldn't expect that. The links are super sticky, and no amount of lube seems to remedy that. I wouldn't use this chain again on anything I ride, just not worth the trouble.

Not my favorite chain, but if you're in a spot and/or need something cheap to throw on your bike and make it go, these work magnificently. Choice chain for beaters and foul weather machines!

the ZChains are really a good line of bike chain. They look really cool, and come in a wide variety of colors that can match the color scheme of just about any bike you're building. Thus the Zchain is a constant component for me and my bike projects -- I actually have a few spares hanging around in case I need them. The only problem is that they don't last too long if you're doing anything more than casual riding. So don't expect too much out of your Zchain if you're doing long trips, riding in the rain, or heading out anywhere that mud or dirt is involved. Otherwise, they're a really great product for the money.

Pros: Great appearance, nice price.

Cons: Don't recommend these chains for really hard riding.

It's a basic 1/8" chain. Mine was the brown color, which ends up looking like a gold chain. No problems; I've taken this chain on and off a couple times, put decent mileage on it, gotten it dirty, cleaned it. Not bad for a $3.00 chain
