Thanks for stocking these! Perfect. Just what I needed to be able to run my boxxer and my tapered totem in the same bike with the same headset.
I go ahead and cut through the race with a hacksaw to get it on easier. It isn't a big deal with sealed bearings, and decent maintenance. This may be frowned upon but it hasn't given me any problems. Pros: Does just it should
Cheap Cons: None Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: May 10, 2013 Reviewed by: McFly, Utah Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Works great for running my straight steerer tube in a tapered Ritchey headset. Plenty stiff, and no play at all. Pros: Worked with my Ritchey headset, stiff Cons: None Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: April 27, 2013 Reviewed by: Ryan J. Was this review Helpful? Needed a crown race for a new fork install.
Rather than trying to remove the old one with the wrong tools, I just got a new crown race.
I got the aluminum version which saves a bit of weight and is just as durable as far as I know.
The seals on this are sooo nice and are bonded to the race like it was born there. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: April 24, 2013 Reviewed by: John, British Columbia Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
the standard One of the best things about Cane Creek headsets is that they are both common and pretty standardized, so it's easy to find parts like this one.
It's a pretty tough crown race, but I still ended up bending one somewhere along the line by removing it with a screwdriver. Pros: easy to find
works great Cons: not immune to a screwdriver applied with force Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: March 02, 2013 Reviewed by: Eric D., Ohio Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
thank crane creek for providing parts without buying hole headset. needed this for tapered fork after switching from 1.1/8 Pros: strong race with dirt shield rubber Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: November 18, 2012 Reviewed by: scott m., California Was this review Helpful? A must if you swap forks often. I have a stock rigid fork and Reba on a bike and bought a crown race for the extra fork. So now when I want to swap out forks, it's as simple as pulling the current fork with the new fork with crown race already installed. Pros: makes swapping forks simple, cheap Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: October 28, 2012 Reviewed by: Ranier D., Deustchland Was this review Helpful? Review for Cane Creek Crown race. Well made. Has a rubber external lip for sealing (mates with Can Creek bottom assembly). Pros: Light weight Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 27, 2012 Reviewed by: Johnny, CA Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Perfect It's nice when you can find the part you're looking for that does exactly what it's supposed to and is reasonably priced to boot.
When I needed to replace the fork on my 29er that has a tapered head tube this is the piece I needed to run the fork with the straight steerer.
Not much else to say but that it works. Pros: Allowed me to install straight steerer on my tapered head tube equipped bike. Cons: None Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: July 09, 2012 Reviewed by: rod c., California Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Used the ZS listed crown race reducer to fit a ZS 40 series tapered cup. Works great Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: July 04, 2012 Reviewed by: Pat C., Washington Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
These are nice races because they have a rubber seal around them to help keep the water out. I got one to be able to use a 1 1/8" fork on a tapered headset so I didn't need anything but this to convert - yay! Get them installed by a shop because you can trash the seal if you try to pound on by yourself. Pros: Sealed, have conversion for tapered to 1 1/8". Cons: None. Great, inexpensive piece to have so that I can easily swap out forks. Much cheaper than buying a second headset just to have this piece. Makes winter/summer transition 5 minutes I bought another crown race for my suspension fork. Went on easy.
Now when I take off the rigid fork I'm out with the suspension fork in ten minutes. Really worth buying. Pros: Handy to have as an extra Cons: Not anodized. Great interchangeability I'm loving these because they allow me to swap forks around to different bikes even though the bikes have different size lower headsets (though they are all 1.5", one is an inset and the other is an external cup).
The rubber ridge around the edge seems to be doing a great job keeping dirt out of the bearing assembly. Pros: High quality throughout, one race fits any 1.5" headset Cane Creek makes. Cons: No shortcomings I have found Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: March 20, 2012 Reviewed by: Biff, Virginia Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Works like it is supposed to. I called Cane Creek to verify that all Cane Creek 1.5 races fit all Cane Creek 1.5 lower headsets. They are completely interchangeable, regardless of models. If yuo have more than on fork that you run on your bike the easiest solution is to just have a crown race on both. It's worth saving the time and aggravation to just pick one of these up, even if it is to just have sitting in your parts bin. Upgraded to a new fork and found it convenient to put a new race on so I now have two easily swappable forks. Who knows if I will ever reinstall the old fork, but I have that option. Cane Creek Crown Race I wanted to be able to swith between two forks on one bike (one disc, one canti brake). Being able to just purchase the crown race was nice. S3 Replacement Fits my Cane Creek S3 headset perfectly. Not a big fan of the rubberized seal but it's what Cane Creek spec'd. I'm more of the Chris Kings all aluminum races. Pros: Fit my S3 headset Cons: Rubberized ring prone to splitting during installation. Fair price for an important replacement part, especially when CC has replaced these headsets with newer models.
