Mavic Wheels are proven and tested on the World Cup Circuit, wether it is the lightweight Crossmax SLR disc or the heavy duty Dee Max you know you are getting a reliable, lightweight and strong complete wheelset. Started in 1889 in the French alps Mavic has over 100 years of experience in making rims and wheels that stand the test of time and deliver a product second to none. When you see the yellow logo you know you are getting a quality product. Mavic has been making mountain bike wheels almost from the beginning of the mountain bike movement, they know what mountain bikers do to their wheels and they build them to suit.
Here is a list of terms that Mavic uses for it's wheels and rims
ISM
Inter spoke milling, lighter rim and equal rigidity is the magic equation to reduce inertia and to free extra power for climbing. A Mavic patented exclusive concept
CD
Couche Dure, This process created a micro surface hardness of the rim, it slows down he braking wear and improves its durability.
ISOPulse
This spoke lacing design and mounting brings better wheel stability, a constant spoke tension and a crystal clear transmission of energy.
SUP
Soude Usine Process, a welded and milled rim joint is extremely strong, eliminates shuddering when braking and offers superior balance.
Ceramic 2
A thermic sheild, harder than aluminum, coats the rim walls to reduce braking distances especially in the rain and to resist wear through braking.
Maxtal
Exclusive to Mavic, an aluminum alloy that is 30% more resistant than a 6106 alloy for lighter and spicier rims.
UB Control
Usine Brut Control, The braking surfaces are milled to improve braking friction and eliminate shuddering.
Fore
By drilling only one rim wall, Mavic made the rim four times more resistant to fatigue stress. All your energy is transmitted through a 20% increase in rigidity.
QRM
Mavic High Quality bearings, The sealed cartridge bearings on all Mavic hubs are exceptional: they are easy to maintain, produce low friction and are interchangeable.
QRM+
Mavic high quality bearings, Mavic's most demanding level. These sealed bearings are removable and micro-adjustable, allowing you to quickly adjust your wheels according to performance goals: high precision adjustment for maxium fluidity, or set tighter for all-weather rides.
UST
Universal Standard for Tubeless, a better grip for tighter control. No more tube, no more rim tape: sounds too good to be true! The UST concept eliminates heat, friction and guarantees a slow deflating rate if punctured.
FTS-L
Force transfer system light, This free wheel system provides a robust and lightweight hub, allowing all the torque at the free wheel to be transmitted to the hub.
FTS-X
Force Transfer System X, a further improved free wheel system to meeet the demands of intensive MTB riding as closely as possible: strengthened pawls and self locking axel end screws to make the free wheel mechanism even more hard wearing and a new seal halving friction torque.
Tracomp
Tubular carbon fiber spokes are fitted between the rim and the hub. They can therefore work under traction and compression. Under normal forces, wheel deformation is limited by the very high traction resistance of the carbon fiber tubular spokes. In the event of a greater force, wheel deformation is limited because the spokes are not able to work under compression.
Zicral
A highly resistant and lightweight aluminum alloy for spokes.
H2
Hammer Hardening, local strengthening of the rim in the area where the spokes exert the greatest force. This improves life expectancy and resistance to the micro cracking.
